of democratic societies. IFES provides targeted technical assistance to strengthen transitional democracies. Founded in 1987 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, IFES has developed and implemented comprehensive, collaborative democracy solutions in more than 120 countries.
Job Responsibilities:
Advise election management bodies (EMBs) on the general implementation of electoral activities;
Coordinate and lead IFES technical support and guidance to EMBs;
Provide an international comparative perspective to EMBs in policy related matters;
Produce comprehensive training materials on electoral operations for use in the field;
Conduct strategic planning workshops and trainings for members and staff of EMBs;
Facilitate roundtable discussions with EMBs, international advisors and other relevant bodies on electoral framework and implementation issues;
Coordinate program activities with other international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations;
Develop and maintain constructive working relationship with the diplomatic community, international and national donors, and program partners;
Prepare and submit a final report detailing the conduct of activities, results, and recommendations at the conclusion of the assignment;
Undertake other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
Masters degree in a related field preferred; Bachelors required;
At least 5-10 years of relevant work experience directly related to technical assistance for electoral systems and processes;
Extensive experience with implementing electoral cycle projects in post-conflict settings;
Demonstrated ability to develop effective training materials;
On-site and medium/long-term capacity-building of election commission and election administration staff highly preferred;
Demonstrated success working with international and national donors in the field;
Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills;
Strong French and English oral and written communication skills required;
Strong professional and collaborative management skills;
Working knowledge of USAID policies and regulations;
Ability to meet deadlines;
Ability to manage and develop local staff;
Familiarity with political, economic, and social issues in Africa.
