We are looking for a Senior Researcher to join a dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a position of responsibility in the development and delivery of strategic projects with governments and the private sector. The position is at the centre of a vibrant phase of growth for Earth Security Group, which will expose the candidate to a rich diversity of projects across industry sectors and regions.
The position will report directly to the CEO. The candidate will be someone that is able to show exceptional analytical and writing skills, an understanding of the challenges to sustainable economic development - as it relates both to the agenda of governments and private sector- , and the ability to translate insights into well-structured research reports for senior audiences. He/she will combine an analytical and enquiring mind, with a ‘practical’ interest to orient strategic research to help to create and support real strategic opportunities for business transformation and public-private collaboration.

The role has three main areas of responsibilities, on which the candidate’s aptitudes will be assessed:

1. Research: Ability to create strategic outputs. The candidate will be a seasoned researcher with a track-record of analytical work and writing executive reports on key issues of economic development and sustainability, involving the private sector. He/she will have the research ability to develop structured analyses of critical sustainability trends and issues for industry sectors, and be able to draw succinct strategic implications for decision-makers. The candidate will show evidence of producing reports in a language, style and format that is oriented to high-level audiences in business, finance, and strategic policy, working to tight deadlines and incorporating design.

2. Leading projects: Ability to manage projects and client relationships. The candidate will be a highly organised individual, with attention to detail and a self-starter. He/she will have experience in project planning and project management, in projects that incorporate phases of research, stakeholder engagement, workshops, and presentation of final results. This will include managing and involving the input of clients as well as external consultants. The candidate will be externally facing as a point person for clients on ESG’s strategic projects. This will require candidates to have experience in managing client relationships at the practical implementation level, and exude an understanding of high-quality work and professionalism.

3. Support growth: Ability to support ESG’s partnerships with governments. The candidate will support the institutional development of ESG’s partnerships with government agencies on our private sector engagement projects. This will require some familiarity with development agencies and multilateral development institutions and how they operate. The candidate will work with the CEO, conduct research to identify key actors with whom to further ESG’s relationships, coordinate meetings and presentations, and advance the development of new project proposals.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Relevant experience in the economic development sector: A solid track-record in delivering analytical research projects within governments, international organisations, multilateral banks or think tanks. A thematic expertise in business sustainability is highly desirable.

• Written and personal communication skills: Exceptional writing skills in English are a requirement. The candidate will be able to structure and communicate ideas in written reports, presentations and possess a strong set of inter-personal communication skills being able to build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

• Generalist/versatile analytical approach: A proven versatility to conduct research across industry sectors and in new regions across the world with an ability to investigate new topics and issues without previous familiarity.

• Academic qualification: A high academic record is desired, preferably with a related master’s or PhD degree.

Time and availability: This is a full-time, permanent position. The applicant will already have the legal permission to work in the UK.
Remuneration: Competitive salary
