Deputy Director, Global Technical Services (GTS)

Nutrition International’s Global Technical Services Unit (GTS), based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of Nutrition International’s research and programs, and the dissemination and translation of new knowledge to influence and improve national and global policies and practice.

The Deputy Director is responsible for developing and implementing management systems to ensure that the Unit achieves its annual objectives in line with Nutrition International’s strategic plan, and builds a culture and practice of continuous quality improvement. S/he negotiates team roles and responsibilities with other units in HQ, Regions and country offices, so as to ensure that the provision of in-house technical services throughout the program cycle is coordinated, consistent, efficient, and meets service-level agreement standards.

Responsibilities will include:
• Technical Assistance Services
• Team Leadership and HR Management
• Project Planning and Management
• Financial Management
• External Profile
• Resource Mobilization

Requirements include:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior managerial role for an international NGO or public sector agency
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development or a similar field
• Experience in lean systems/processes would be considered an asset but not essential
• Strong project management skills and experience
• Proven people management and leadership skills
• Ability to prioritize work load and objectives
• Excellent communications skills
• High-level analytical skills
• Proven ability to manage staff from a distance
• This position is based in Ottawa, Canada. The position will require travel to Africa and Asia, as well as the Americas and Europe. Trips are usually expected to be short term in duration (<3 weeks). Overall travel days per year are usually no more than 90. Travel is expected to developing countries approximately 2 – 4 times per year.
